Early recollections of the Duluth and Iron Range Railroad, 1923 July 19.

Typewritten account of McGonagle's work for the Duluth and Iron Range Railroad, locating the line from Two Harbors, on Lake Superior, to the Minnesota Iron Company mines in Tower/Soudan. Beginning in December 1882 he describes hardships of both winter (cold and snow) and summer (mosquitoes) surveying, his crew, various railroad men in Duluth, transporting the first engine from Duluth via steamship, and the settlement of Two Harbors, including an 1883 typhoid fever outbreak. McGonagle read the account at a July 19, 1923 meeting of the Duluth and Iron Range Veterans' Association in Two Harbors.
